Hippos travel in groups to protect each other from crocodiles, lions, and hyenas. Groups of hippos are called schools, bloats, pods, and sieges. Schools usually consist of 10 to 30 hippos. Information
BerttheFartingHippo_zpsc60800c2.jpgBaby hippos are called calves and can weigh 1,000 pounds at birth and can soon grow to be 5,697 pounds to 18,189 pounds. Hippos tend to be very aggressive and dangerous. They have large teeth and tusks to help fight off threats. Their whiskers are located above the upper lip and have fuzziness around their ears and tails. Hippos are herbivores who eat 8,000 pounds of grass or fruit a night, and store up to 200 days worth of food in their stomach. I bet that you didn't know that hippos are native to Africa and live in lakes or rivers to keep cool from the hot African sun. Hippo populations are in decline in eastern central and southern sub-Saharan Africa because they have to live in places with abundant water, and these places don't have enough water.
